giving back at Stanford

Currently, Kappa is involved in several philanthropic ventures, both as a group and individually. Here at Stanford, Kappas get so much from the campus community and the surrounding community, so we like to give back as much as we gain. Several ongoing philanthropy projects include serving weekly homeless breakfasts and organizing and participating in Garden-A-Thon in the spring, where we help a budding community plant a new garden to brighten the neighborhood.
Every year, Kappa reaches out to those who need it: and host our annual Casa Olga Thanksgiving Dinner, as we team up with Sigma Chi to serve thanksgiving dinner to Casa Olga residents, an assited living home for the elderly. In the holiday season, Kappa Clause helps spread Christmas cheer by donating presents for an entire low-income family.
Stanford Kappas believe in the power of the written word and dedicate much passion and time to helping spread literacy to surrounding communities. We donate much needed books to children in Native American tribes and support our international philanthropy, Reading Is Fundamental (RIF). We donate our time and talent to children's literacy programs in the area and tutor various organizations such as East Palo Alto Tennis and Tutoring. We support other Greek and campus group philanthropy events as much as we can, and are currently in the process of organizing an event that will become our annual "signature" fund-raiser.
giving back internationally
As individuals with time, talents and treasures, Kappas first support our sisters; second, we participate in local service projects; and third, we serve the greater good.
Our chapter women support elementary schools, Relay for Life, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Habitat for Humanity to name a few. Chapter fundraising events support causes such as the American Cancer Society, breast cancer/Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, tsunami relief, and multiple sclerosis research.
Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), our official philanthropic partner, has been supported through the donation of thousands of books and volunteer hours to Boys and Girls Clubs, elementary schools and hospitals.
Our chapters also have supported the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation with financial gifts and Rose McGill magazine subscription sales to help fund scholarships, confidential aid, education and training, and support of our two museums.
