Beta Tau at Syracuse University
Philanthropy
Philanthropy is altruistic concern for others, and the Beta Tau Chapter cultivates social responsibility by giving time, talent and treasure to serve the greater good. Our national philanthropy is Reading is Fundamental (RIF). The Beta Tau chapter hosts other philanthropy events, and continuously fundraises throughout the year. We also participate in other fraternity and sorority philanthropy events, and events in the community:
-Alpha Epsilon Pi Wiffles n’ Waffles
-Sigma Alpha Mu Greeks vs. Cancer
-Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk
-Gift of Life Bone Marrow Drive
-Gamma Phi Beta Mr. SU
-Alpha Chi Rho Powderpuff Football
Recent Philanthropy Events:
Kappa Karwash: To start off the school year, we held a carwash at the chapter house, with all proceeds going to RIF and the Rose McGill Fund. We had a great time and passed our fundraising goal of raising over $500!
Book Drive: The Kappa chapter at Syracuse University held its annual Fall Book Drive this past semester, to aid a local Syracuse elementary school, in collaboration with the Kappa philanthropy, RIF.
Dress Donation: This fall, we hosted a dress donation philanthropy event in collaboration with Alpha Phi, and collected hundreds of new or gently used formal dresses, which were donated to the Central New York Chapter of Becca’s Closet.

Philanthropy 1-2-3
As individuals with time, talents and treasures, Kappas first support our sisters; second, we participate in local service projects; and third, we serve the greater good.
Our chapter women support a local Syracuse elementary school, Relay for Life, and Habitat for Humanity to name a few. Chapter fundraising events support causes such as the American Cancer Society, and breast cancer/Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), our official philanthropic partner, has been supported through the donation of thousands of books and volunteer hours to Boys and Girls Clubs, elementary schools and hospitals.
Our chapter has also have supported the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation with financial gifts and Rose McGill magazine subscription sales to help fund scholarships, confidential aid, education and training, and support of our two museums.
