Delta Omega at Fresno State

Welcome to Kappa’s philanthropy page! I am the current philanthropy chair here at Fresno State. The idea behind a philanthropic event is to support a charitable organization by donating time, money, and effort in support of that organization. Kappa Kappa Gamma believes in 1-2-3 Philanthropy. Kappa focuses their philanthropic efforts locally, nationally, and through Reading Is Fundamental (RIF). 

We held our first ever Kappa Jam this past spring in support of The Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation. Kappa Jam is a lip-synching, skit, and dance competition between the fraternities here at Fresno State. Each fraternity was given five minutes to come up with a routine using music, props, and costumes. The fraternities had a great time putting their routines together with the help of their Kappa coaches. We all had a great time watching the fraternity’s routines and we look forward to the second annual Kappa Jam next spring. To help support the event each sister found a sponsor for Kappa Jam and we were able to donate over two thousand dollars to the national Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation.  

Our fall philanthropy is our annual Kappa Softball Tournament. Kappa girls both coach and umpire the softball tournament that is played amongst the fraternities from our school. Our fall philanthropy benefits the preschool children from the local community center Stone Soup. As with our spring philanthropy each sister supports the philanthropy by finding a community sponsor for the tournament. Last fall we were able to raise over three thousand dollars and this fall we are hoping that we can raise even more money for Stone Soup. 

We support Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) by reading and working with the children of Stone Soup. Every holiday we hold a party at our house for the kids complete with decorations, snacks, coloring, games, goody bags, and of course reading. We pick a holiday themed book and have and interactive reading session that the kids really enjoy. Our next project is to make back to school goody bags complete with school supplies and books for the kids to start the school year off right. As a chapter we are also working to continue to volunteer and read each week at Stone Soup. We held two book drives this past year and donated the books to Stone Soup and local elementary schools, we are looking to collect and donate even more books this year!

Kappa Kappa Gamma not only hosts its own fabulous philanthropies but we also participate in other fraternity and sorority philanthropies here at Fresno State. This past year we participated in many philanthropy events and we look forward to them again this year.
