Epsilon Epsilon History
In the fall of 1955 Kappa Kappa Gamma made its first appearance on campus as the local social club known as the Fleur-de-Lis Club. This club was the product of two transfer students from the University of Alabama who had already pledged their name and interest to Kappa Kappa Gamma and wanted to continue to do so at Emory University. These two ladies recruited 12 new members in order to keep their temporary charter and remain on campus.
The administration voted in the spring of 1958 to allow national sororities to colonize at Emory University. The Atlanta Alumnae Association had been working to secure a chapter at Emory for several years, and in order to expedite this process they hosted the Vice President of Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity to discuss the Fleur-De-Lis club’s affiliation. And on February 6, 1959 they made their pledge to the national sorority.
On May 8, 1959, the University granted the sorority along with ten others their charters. The next day, Clara O. Pierce and Frances Alexander initiated the chapter.
In the fall of 1973 the sororities at Emory University opened the doors to lodges that to this day serve as living quarters, meeting spaces, and common areas for the chapter.
While the fashions have changed and members have come and gone, one thing has remained the same: Kappa Kappa Gamma at Emory University houses a group of quality women with high ideas and goals that aren’t afraid to be themselves and have fun!
We have proved ourselves Womanly and True and have reaped the benefits of our hard work. With honors such as Dean’s Cup at the Emory Greek Life Awards, Heritage Award at Providence, and the Efficiency Award, Most Outstanding Chapter, and Ritual Award at Kappa Kappa Gamma Convention.
