Epsilon Mu at Clemson University
Philanthropy 1-2-3:
As individuals with time, talents and treasures, Kappas first support our sisters; second, we participate in local service projects; and third, we serve the greater good.
Our chapter women support elementary schools, Relay for Life, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Habitat for Humanity to name a few. Chapter fundraising events support causes such as the American Cancer Society, breast cancer/Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, tsunami relief, and multiple sclerosis research.
Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), our official philanthropic partner, has been supported through the donation of thousands of books and volunteer hours to Boys and Girls Clubs, elementary schools and hospitals.
Our chapters also have supported the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation with financial gifts and Rose McGill magazine subscription sales to help fund scholarships, confidential aid, education and training, and support of our two museums.
Epsilon Mu's Philanthropy Involvement:
Kappa Kappa Gamma is very involved with philanthropic organizations on a local and a national level. We support the National Multiple Sclerosis Society as our local philanthropy and Reading Is Fundamental for our national philanthropy. All of our events provide service to the community while allowing Kappas to enjoy time together. We host Kappa Kickoff, a flag football tournament in the fall, to help raise money for these service organizations along with the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation.
Each year the ladies of Kappa Kappa Gamma participate in the local MS Walk in Anderson, South Carolina. We gather early in the morning for a warm-up and walk with other supporters from the community followed by lunch with all the participants. This year we were able to distribute over 600 brochures throughout the Greenville, Anderson, and Clemson areas to help promote the local MS Walk.
Kappas all across the country help to support “Reading Is Fundamental” to help promote the importance of literacy in our society. In the spring we hold a local book drive to collect children’s books to donate to a local elementary school library.
Aside from our main philanthropy events, Kappas volunteer at local elementary schools and nursing homes, as well as participate annually in Relay for Life, St. Jude’s, and many other service events in the Greek community and throughout campus.
