Kappa’s philanthropy program is divided into three main parts. First, our chapter supports the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation that helps our sisters in need. Kappa believes that no deserving, qualified Kappa should have to interrupt her education. In the 2008-2009 school year, the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation awarded nearly $500,000 in scholarships. The Rose McGill Agency provides confidential aid to deserving Kappas of all ages who find themselves in financial need due to misfortune or illness. In order to raise funds, many chapters and alumnae associations sell magazine subscriptions. Proceeds from the Foundation also go to educational and leadership programs for our members. We feel that every Kappa should have an opportunity to develop as a person and as part of a group. Kappa provides Kappa trainer visits to chapters as well as Leadership Academy, a four day team building and enriching experience. All Kappas should be able to have the opportunity to learn about their history as Kappas and as wmen. The Foundation supports the operation of The Heritage Museum in Columbus, Ohio and The Stewart House Museum in Monmouth, Illinois. These museums showcase the life and times of our Founders, thereby furthering our understanding of our Kappa as a whole.

The third and final part of Kappa’s philanthropy program is supporting Reading is Fundamental. RIF puts books in the hands of vulnerable young children and motivates them to read. There are more than 20,000 programs in all 50 states to help under-served children and families discover the joys of reading and encouraging children to become lifelong learners. To learn more about RIF, please visit www.rif.org

In 2009, Kappa held its first annual Reading is Key, a philanthropy event designed to show children the joy of reading and learning. Kappas from UCI, with the help of members of other Greek organizations, gathered at the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Ana for a fun-filled day of reading, arts and crafts, games, and snacks with a themed based off of a book. In 2009, Kappa Kappa Gamma played games and performed skits based off of "Where The Wild Things Are". In 2010, with the theme and book "Corduroy Bear", the Kids were able to go home with not only a book in hand, but also a stuffed animal donated by Build-A-Bear or Vermont Teddy Bear Company.
